Vinnytsia Will Strengthen Cooperation with German Cities in the Conditions of Post-War Recovery - Serhii Morhunov

Vinnytsia mayor Serhii Morhunov took part in the German-Ukrainian conference "Partnerships for Reconstruction and Development", which took place in the city of Augsburg. The event was organized by the Association of Cities of Ukraine. As part of the event, the head of Vinnytsia met with the mayors of the Association of German Cities and the Association of Ukrainian Cities and discussed issues of further cooperation. Serhii Morhunov also thanked his German colleagues for supporting Ukraine and helping Vinnytsia.
As the mayor of Vinnytsia said, the German communities supported Vinnytsia since the beginning of the full-scale war. In April, the heads of a number of German towns from Bavaria, such as Rottenbuch, Pehl and Bernried, came to Vinnytsia with humanitarian aid. The city of Karlsruhe also took the initiative to establish twinning. According to Serhii Morhunov, the deepening of cooperation with German cities corresponds to the partnership goals of our community. After all, Vinnytsia has been implementing the tools of integrated urban development for a long time and actively participates in European projects.
"Vinnytsia, in turn, can share its experience of working in crisis situations with German cities," Serhii Morhunov noted. "In addition, I think that in the conditions of post-war reconstruction, German municipalities may be interested in working within the framework of the recovery of Ukraine on horizontal principles: for example, in the format business - business or in the field of education."
According to the head of Vinnytsia, the conference is a way to discuss urgent problems that exist in the territorial communities of Ukraine, and to determine points of contact for establishing cooperation.
"This is not only a matter of humanitarian aid, for which we sincerely thank every municipality in Germany. This is a matter of rebuilding our cities and, in general, restoring our country according to European standards, as a candidate for the European community, so that this road is as short as possible. And German municipalities probably understand this issue better than anyone else. For its part, Ukraine, with the help of Europe, will remain the guarantor of the security of the EU's eastern borders."
Also, according to Vinnytsia mayor, it is important that further cooperation be based on the principles of dialogue and equality, sustainability and strategic vision, as well as interaction at various levels.
"It is important that we do not just collect agreements and treaties on twinning," said the mayor. "There should be a dialogue not only at the level of authorities, but also among business, in the cultural sphere, in education, health care with the involvement of the whole community. If it is, then the relationship lives as a full-fledged organism and then you can achieve a certain result. As an example, I would like to cite our long-term cooperation with the Polish city of Kielce. We have maintained friendly relations since 1956. They were laid at the level of the people, not the authorities, so they are still strong. And in the first days of the war, the mayor of Kielce, Bogdan Wenta, was the first to call me and ask for what they can do to help. It is worth a lot..."
We will remind, at the September session of the City Council, a decision was made to develop international cooperation with the city of Karlsruhe.
