14 January 2022, 11:33

Ambassador of the European Union to Ukraine Matti Maasikas paid a working visit to Vinnytsia. He was in our city for the first time. According to the mayor Serhii Morhunov on his Facebook page, the diplomat was interested in infrastructure projects being implemented in Vinnytsia. The participants also discussed decentralization in the context of challenges hindering the completion of the reform.

During the meeting, the mayor stressed the importance of local government to have its own resources for development. For example, due to financial decentralization, the development budget of Vinnytsia has increased fivefold. This allowed for comprehensive reconstruction of streets, modernization of hospitals and purchase of new vehicles.

"Therefore, we are very concerned about the trend of curtailing decentralization. After all, the implementation of the plans of the Vinnytsia 3.0 Strategy depends on this," said Serhii Morhunov. "It is important that Europe supports the formation of communities in the process of decentralization. EU countries are reliable partners for Ukraine and Vinnytsia as well. Our city will continue to cooperate with European institutions in various fields for sustainable development."

During the visit, Matti Maasikas has met with the leadership of the regional council and the regional state administration. It is also planned to communicate with representatives of the EU network, the ULEAD team.
