On April 7, Mayor Serhii Morhunov met with the leadership of the SES of Ukraine in Vinnytsia region and representatives of Halo TRUST. Plans to establish an office of this organization, which deals with humanitarian demining, were discussed.
The center, which Halo TRUST plans to set up, wants to train demining specialists and then send them where they need to go. Such intentions were announced today by the head of the program in Ukraine Mary Cunningham.
"We are a non-governmental organization engaged in humanitarian demining in 26 countries. We work in those countries of the world where there was or is a conflict. In Ukraine we have over 400 specialists. Our main goal is to save lives," said Mary Cunningham.
"We are well aware that one of the elements of Russia's war against Ukraine is also the creation of dangerous situations in relatively peaceful cities. This is a matter of provocations, in particular - calls about mines, and our task is to respond quickly to the inspection. In case of detection of dangerous substances and objects, fast and effective demining is necessary," Serhii Morhunov noted.
During the meeting, the head of the Vinnytsia office was introduced, he will be the deputy head of the program in Ukraine - Irakli Chytanava.
The Mayor stressed that the City Council is open to cooperation with international institutions working in the humanitarian field.
